Chances are you know a lot of beauty truths. For one, eating chocolate doesn’t cause acne. And antioxidants fight free-radicals. But when it comes to natural beauty, so much false information is floating around it can be hard to get to the truth. We’re here to dispel some of the biggest beauty myths out there. Knowledge is power!

Myth: If It’s Natural It’s Good For Me.
Truth: Not All Natural Products Are Made The Same!
Packaging is often created to be purposefully misleading, especially when it comes to green beauty and natural skincare. Just because a brand claims to be natural, it doesn’t mean that it is free of chemicals and lab-made ingredients. In fact, no laws are in place to stop beauty brands from blatantly lying on their packaging. The only way to truly ensure the safety of what you’re putting on your body is to do your research! Read a product’s label, look up the ingredients, go to the brand’s website and search for proof behind their claims. We must demand accountability and transparency from the brands that we choose to support.
UMA is a vertically integrated company, meaning that we control every step of the production process! When you treat yourself to one of our oils, you are investing in absolute ingredient purity. Each and every UMA oil is created purely from oils that were grown, extracted, formulated and bottled entirely at our heirloom family estate in India

Myth: All Green Beauty Companies Are Sustainable.
Truth: Marketing Can Often Means A Whole Lot Of “Green” Fluff!
Companies will often spend more time and money claiming to be green through advertising and marketing than on actually implementing sustainable and eco-friendly practices – this is what is often called “greenwashing.” Greenwashing examples are sadly widespread. Fortunately, many independent organizations now independently investigate and certify sustainable companies that actually operate sustainably and give back to their communities. UMA is proud to have worked with organizations like Provenance.org, Create-Sustain to receive certifications.
At UMA, sustainable beauty is in our DNA! It begins at our farm where we harvest each plant no more than two times before re-planting, which both ensures unparalleled purity and the health of our soil. The factory itself is uniquely self-sustaining and environment-friendly, with its innovative machinery that converts waste product back into reusable fuel. This allows us to operate with minimal dependence on outside energy resources, while leaving behind the smallest of footprints. We also purposefully keep our bottles label-free so you can reuse them however you like. We love the idea of decorating your vanity with empty UMA bottles filled with flowers.

Myth: Green Beauty Products Are Too Expensive.
Truth: You Actually Save Money By Going Green!
If you’re brand new to the world of green beauty, you’ve likely suffered the initial sticker shock. We get it, going from a $20 lotion to an $100+ face oil seems crazy. But what if we told you that $20 bottle could actually be costing you a lot more in the long run? We found many “cost effective” beauty products often have very few active ingredients, often in small proportions. They’re mostly a combination of oil and water, and these two need a lot of help to stick together: an emulsifier to make sure they stay blended, plus a preservative to prevent bacteria from growing in the water. You’ll also likely to run out of product quicker because you need to use more of it to make up for the fact that the formula is watered-down.
Lastly, keep in mind that products could have been sitting on the shelf for months – sometimes years! Remember, the FDA does not require beauty brands to attach expiration dates to labels. In the end, you can end up overpaying for a ton of useless chemicals and very little of the good stuff!
UMA Face Oils come fresh from the farm, are highly concentrated, and unbelievably pure and potent – you can literally get a fresh bottle on your hands within 4 weeks of production! Each UMA bottle goes a long way since you only need 3-5 drops to cover your entire face and neck. Our boxes also come with expiration dates!

Myth: Natural Beauty Products Aren’t As Effective.
Truth: Natural Ingredients Can Be Just As Effective As Their Chemical Counterparts!
If you’re a beauty junkie, ingredients like retinol and hyaluronic acid are likely regulars on your skincare routine. We totally get it, you’re seeing results so you stick with using these ingredients – even though sometimes you don’t like the side effects or may need to go off them (like retinol based products during pregnancy). But we are here to tell you there is a better way, you DO NOT have to compromise efficiency for purity! Pure, organic oils can be just as effective as their lab-created counterparts, but without the damaging side effects on your body. It’s time to debunk these natural skincare myths and embrace the power of pure, organic skincare.
UMA’s potent formulas have been tested on generations of women (including princesses and queens!), and deliver the same amazing results today – without any harmful synthetics. We use Rose Oil as a natural counterpart for hyaluronic acid, to intensely moisturize and plump skin due to its anti-inflammatory and hydration-supporting properties. Powerful Frankincense subs for retinol, as it rapidly increases cellular turnover causing your skin to produce healthier cells to replace the aging cells. This process visibly reduces wrinkles, fine lines and scars. To learn more about the powerful botanicals in our formulas, head over to our Ingredients page.

Myth: Facial Oils Cause Breakouts.
Truth: Naturally Derived Oils Aren’t Responsible For Breakouts!
You’re already stressed over breaking out and we totally understand not wanting to make it worse. But here’s the truth: 1. Only highly-comedogenic oils, or mineral oils/ synthetic oils, cause breakouts . 2. Over-use of benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid will severely dry and over-exfoliate the skin; leading to breakage, redness, and unnecessary pain.
UMA’s tactic for dealing with oiliness and breakouts is to work alongside the skin – not against it. All are oils are completely non-comedogenic. The right oils can actually help to balance your skin’s sebum production and prevent clogged pores. Keep in mind that different oils serve different purposes! You want to stay away from deeply hydrating formulas, opting for antibacterial essential oils and lightweight carrier oils instead. Our Deeply Clarifying Face Oil is the perfect example of a well-balanced formula. Essentials oils like clove and tea tree go after bacteria and fight infection, while a base of grapeseed oil keeps your natural moisture barrier balanced and intact, preventing future blemishes.
