Why We Love
Ama
Ama is an important concept in Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine. It is a Sanskrit word that translates literally to mean things like “unripe,” “uncooked,” “raw,” “immature,” or “undigested.” Essentially, it is a form of un-digested material that accumulates in the body and can lead to health issues if not addressed.
In Ayurveda, Ama is seen as the root cause of all diseases and illnesses. It is believed to be caused by poor dietary habits and low digestive fire. Over time ama tends to accumulate in the body due to improper digestion of food and other toxins from the environment. This accumulation can lead to various health problems such as fatigue, bloating, indigestion, skin problems and even more serious conditions such as diabetes and cancer.
Ayurvedic practitioners recommend certain herbs and lifestyle changes to help rid the body of ama. These include ginger, castor oil, Guduchi, Balataka and Kuchala among others. Additionally, eating lighter meals with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables can help improve digestion and reduce ama buildup in the body. Regular exercise also helps improve circulation which helps flush out toxins from the body.
