Why We Love
Basti
Basti is an Ayurvedic therapy that has been used for centuries to treat a variety of ailments. It is one of the five major treatments in Panchakarma, which is an ancient system of healing that uses natural remedies to restore balance and health to the body. Basti involves the use of medicated oils, herbs, and other substances to cleanse and nourish the body.
The primary goal of Basti is to treat vata dosha, which is the main etiological factor in many diseases. This treatment helps to reduce inflammation, improve digestion, and eliminate toxins from the body. It can also help improve circulation and reduce stress levels.
Basti comes in two forms: Anuvasana (oil-based) and Niruha (herbal-based). Anuvasana Basti involves using medicated oil or ghee that is administered through a tube inserted into the rectum or lower abdomen. The oil helps to lubricate and nourish the tissues while eliminating toxins from the body. Niruha Basti uses herbal decoctions or powders that are administered through a tube inserted into the rectum or lower abdomen as well. This form of Basti helps to detoxify and strengthen the tissues while providing essential nutrients for healing.
Both forms of Basti can be used in combination with other therapies such as Abhyanga (massage), Shirodhara (oil pouring), Swedana (steam bath), and Nasya (nasal administration). These treatments work together synergistically to bring balance back to the body by restoring its natural equilibrium.
