Why We Love
Chitta
Chitta is an important concept in Ayurveda, the ancient Indian science of health and healing. Chitta is a Sanskrit word that translates to “mind” or “heart,” and it refers to the emotional part of our self that affects our daily activities. In Ayurveda, Chitta is seen as an internal sense organ made up of three qualities (trigunas) of the universe: Manas, Buddhi and Ahamkar.
The concept of Chitta is closely related to Patanjali yoga, which teaches us how to calm the mind through meditative techniques known as Chitta-vritti-nirodha. This practice helps us to reduce mental fluctuations by calming the mind and allowing us to focus on what’s important. It also teaches us how to cultivate compassion towards those who are suffering from pain or misfortune, which can help us develop emotional understanding and empathy.
