Why We Love

Gunas

Ayurveda is an ancient system of medicine that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. It is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. One of the core concepts of Ayurveda is the understanding of Gunas, or qualities.

Gunas are the essential qualities that make up all aspects of life, including humans. They are divided into three categories: Sattva (purity), Rajas (activity) and Tamas (inertia). Each guna has its own unique characteristics and plays an important role in maintaining balance in our lives.

Sattva is associated with purity, clarity, lightness and peace. It is believed to be the highest quality of energy and encourages us to live a life of balance and harmony. Rajas is associated with activity, passion and ambition. It encourages us to take action towards achieving our goals but can also lead to restlessness if not kept in check. Tamas is associated with inertia, darkness and materialism. It can lead to stagnation if left unchecked but can also be used as a source of strength when needed.
