Why We Love
Nidra
Nidra, or sleep, is an important concept in Ayurveda. It is one of the three pillars (trayastambha) of life that sustain health and prevent disease. According to Ayurveda, proper sleep is essential for physical and mental wellbeing.
Nidra is defined as a natural physiological process that occurs in all living beings usually during the nights. It is seen as a state in which human desire is absent, providing ultimate detachment from worldly desires and activities. In this state, the body and mind are at rest and can rejuvenate themselves.
Ayurveda prescribes certain rules regarding diet and sleep called seasonal regimens (ritucharya). These include following a regular routine with regards to sleeping and waking up times, avoiding late night meals, eating light meals before bedtime, avoiding strenuous activities before bedtime etc.
