Prakriti
Ayurveda is an ancient system of medicine from India that has been practiced for thousands of years. It is based on the concept of Prakriti, which is the individual’s unique constitution or body type. This concept is used to assess a person’s health and determine the best course of treatment for them.
Prakriti is determined at the moment of conception and is a combination of three energies known as doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each dosha has its own characteristics and qualities, such as Vata being light, dry, cold, mobile, and rough; Pitta being hot, sharp, intense, oily; and Kapha being heavy, slow-moving, cool, and moist.
The balance between these doshas determines a person’s prakriti. A person with a balanced prakriti will have all three doshas in equal proportions. If one dosha is more dominant than the others then it can lead to imbalances in the body which can manifest as physical or mental health issues.
Ayurvedic practitioners use prakriti to diagnose illnesses and create personalized treatments that are tailored to each individual’s needs. They may prescribe lifestyle changes such as diet modifications or herbal remedies to help restore balance in the body.
