Why We Love

Prana

Prana is an essential concept in Ayurveda, the traditional Indian system of medicine. It is a subtle form of Vata Dosha and can be defined as ‘the life force’ or ‘the breath of life’. Prana is believed to be responsible for sustaining life, as it animates the body and enlivens the mind. It is also said to be the motivating force behind the three doshas or biological humors of Vata (air), Pitta (fire) and Kapha (water).

In yoga, prana is seen as a vital energy that permeates reality and connects all living things. It is believed that the quality of our breath reflects our overall health and wellbeing, so yogic practices such as pranayama are used to increase prana levels in order to promote physical, mental and spiritual balance.
