Vritti
Vritti is an important concept in Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine. It refers to the mental and emotional fluctuations that occur in the mind. Vritti can be understood as “fickle thought impulses which clutter the mind”. It is believed that these thoughts and emotions create a state of imbalance in the body, leading to physical and psychological ailments.
The term Vritti comes from Sanskrit, where it means “to turn or revolve”. This implies that these mental and emotional fluctuations are constantly changing and evolving, creating a state of constant flux in our minds. According to Ayurveda, this imbalance can be corrected by bringing awareness to our thoughts and emotions and consciously working towards restoring balance within ourselves.
