LUXURY AYURVEDIC BEAUTY: THE RISE OF SUSTAINABLE & ETHICAL PRACTICES

In recent years, there has been a significant rise in the demand for luxury Ayurvedic beauty products that not only enhance our well-being but also prioritize sustainability and ethics. This blog post explores the growing trend of incorporating Ayurvedic practices into the realm of luxury beauty and how they align with the values of conscious consumers.

Luxury Ayurvedic brands are taking a step towards sustainability and ethical practices in the beauty industry. We at UMA, for instance, embrace the use of hand-blown glass packaging for our beloved hair oil, body oil, face serums, and candles. Our brand aims to provide you with a truly indulgent experience while being mindful of the environment.

“Luxury is more than a label – it’s a statement of exquisite craftsmanship, characterized by an investment of time and attention to detail.”

Shrankhla Holecek, Founder and CEO of UMA.

THE ESSENCE OF AYURVEDIC BEAUTY:

Ayurveda, an ancient holistic healing system originating from India, emphasizes the balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Ayurvedic beauty practices transcend superficial treatments, prioritizing the nourishment of the skin through the use of natural and botanical ingredients. UMA harnesses the potency of Ayurvedic elements sourced from the lush meadows of India, providing skincare products that naturally nurture and nourish the skin.

ETHICAL PRACTICES AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

Another key aspect of our brand is our commitment to ethical practices. The intricate flower-and-herb design that adorns our jars and cartons was sketched by Bhoomika Upadhyay, an artist and fashion designer, who was inspired by the flowers and herbs found in UMA meadows in India. The design was then executed by a Spanish design firm, with the motif screen-printed on the glass and external packaging. We also collaborate with local communities and artisans, empowering them through fair wages and providing sustainable livelihoods.

“We embrace technological advancements but believe technology will never be a substitute for experience, judgment, and personalized attention.”

Shrankhla Holecek.

THE RISE IN CONSUMER AWARENESS:

As consumers become more conscious of their choices, the demand for luxury Ayurvedic beauty products continues to soar. People are seeking products that not only deliver excellent results but also align with their values of sustainability, ethics, and overall well-being.

SUSTAINABILITY AS A CORE VALUE:

Luxury Ayurvedic beauty brands not only prioritize delivering effective results but also are committed to minimizing their environmental impact. UMA even pays attention to the smallest details, such as the labels on their glass jars. These labels are applied by hand using a non-toxic adhesive, and a two-step decorating process makes them easily removable, allowing you to reuse the jars. We wanted to ensure that the packaging could be easily recycled, so we did extensive research on the recyclability of the materials used. Our brand responsibly sources its ingredients, prioritizes eco-friendly packaging, and supports fair trade practices, making a positive contribution to the planet.

We at UMA  demonstrate our commitment to sustainability by using post-recycled stock for our cartons. We opted for screen-printing over an offset process to give the ink a “feathery” look and feel. We also used a spot UV printing technique to reflect quality.

“We wanted to ‘gift’ our customer the delight she expects from holding a truly indulgent product, in every aspect. But without the environmentally insensitive use of ‘bells and whistles’ that quickly make their way into trash and landfills.”

Shrankhla Holecek

Luxury Ayurvedic beauty is not just a passing trend, but a reflection of our collective desire for products that harmonize with our bodies and our planet. Through our dedication to sustainable and ethical practices, UMA exemplifies how luxury Ayurvedic brands can appeal to environmentally conscious consumers. By prioritizing craftsmanship, attention to detail, and recyclability, we showcase our commitment to both beauty and the environment.

10 SIMPLE WAYS TO REDUCE YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT THIS EARTH DAY

Many of us have been concerned about saving energy for many years, and understandably so. Whether it’s gas, electricity, or petrol that fuels our cars, it’s expensive and it’s taking its toll on our planet.

In recent years, we’ve been hearing more and more about the idea of carbon footprint, which is a measure of the total amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere as a result of the activities of a particular individual, organization, or community.

The United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has issued a dire warning about the state of pollution, global warming, and its effects on the planet. In this report issued on February 28, 2022, they have given humanity just 12 years to make a real effort to reduce carbon emissions and become more environmentally friendly. Any later, and Earth could undergo irreversible changes that would be catastrophic.

European Countries Are Among the World’s Highest Carbon Emitters

The world can emit more than 2.4 million pounds of CO2 per second, and European countries are among some of the highest emitters in the world.

There are numerous changes that ordinary people can make to their daily lives to minimize their impact on the environment this Earth Day (22nd April,2024). It’s up to every person to make the necessary changes, so here are a few tips to help you make a start. Here are 10 ways to reduce your carbon footprint and waste output.

1

RECYCLE MORE

Pledge to recycle your waste and take advantage of your local recycling facilities. If your municipality does not offer the collection of recycling, find out where the nearest facility or drop-off point is. Make an effort to separate your plastic, paper, metal, and glass waste in your home. Find ways to reuse or upcycle waste items that cannot be recycled. Also, ask yourself whether you need to buy these non-recyclable products again in the future.

Rubbish Can Add to Your Carbon Footprint Too

Landfills are incredible sources of greenhouse gases and pollution. For every pound of rubbish you throw away, you’ll create one pound of greenhouse gases.

2

CUT OUT PLASTIC

The UN estimates that by 2050, there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish. Our consumption of plastic products and plastic packaging is unsustainable. Choose to use paper shopping bags, metal straws, and plastic alternatives where possible. Shop at plastic-free stores and make a concerted effort to reduce your reliance on plastic. Take part in local beach and park clean-ups. Pick up any litter you see in your daily life, especially the small waste items.

Paper Production Contributes to Carbon Emissions

The more paper you use, the more you are contributing to carbon emissions or deforestation, which is responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than all the world’s cars, trucks, planes, and ships put together.

3

MINIMIZE FOOD WASTE

Food waste that gets put in a bin often ends up in a landfill and then decomposes, producing large volumes of methane in the process. Methane is a greenhouse gas. Place organic food scraps in a compost bucket and use it to feed your garden. Try to finish your meals at restaurants and takeaways. Store food correctly in a cool, dry cupboard or the fridge. Buy only what you need; doing a weekly meal prep will help you shop for only the food you need.

Food Production Accounts for 83% of Carbon Emissions Each Year

Businesses that produce food contribute to emissions of carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane—additionally, transporting food accounts for 11% of carbon emissions.

4

SAVE WATER

Saving water is critical for reducing our carbon footprint. Only flush the toilet when necessary. Reduce your shower time to two minutes. Install water-saving taps in the kitchen and bathroom. Collect water from your shower or bath and reuse it to flush your toilets and wash your car.

Your Water Has a High Carbon Footprint

Water conservation is one of the keys to reducing our CO2 output and saving our planet from global warming. In the UK, we require 4,645 liters of water per person every day, resulting in 3.68 million tonnes of CO2 per year from the supply and treatment of our water.

5

USE ECO-FRIENDLY PRODUCTS

Start using eco-friendly cleaning products such as shampoos, detergents, and dishwashing liquids. Opt for low-phosphate products as these are better for water systems, rivers, and the ocean. Many local brands and supermarkets have started to introduce eco-friendly cleaning products to the market, so they are quite easy to find.

Read on how UMA has taken initiatives towards sustainability whether it is for Packaging or Community initiatives.

6

FERTILIZE YOUR GARDEN

Take care of your garden, especially during the winter. Use organic waste and vegetable offcuts from your kitchen to start a compost. Use this compost to feed your plants. Compost is an amazing natural fertilizer for plants, lawns, and trees. Alternatively, you can use conventional fertilizers to keep your soil full of nutrients.

7

GROW VEGETABLES AND HERBS

Start to plant more in your garden. Do some research on local plant species and hardy flora that do not require too much water. Start a vegetable garden and plant your tomatoes, carrots, spinach, lettuce, and beans. Grow your herbs too. These steps will save you money in the long run as you won’t have to go to the shops as often to buy vegetables and herbs.

8

BUY LOCAL

Shop at the closest store to your house, or at a convenient supermarket on the way home. Visit your local markets on the weekend and support your local grocers and farmers. Buying at local markets is also a great way to avoid unnecessary plastic packaging.

9

REDUCE ELECTRICITY USAGE

Make an effort to minimize your electricity usage. Switch off lights when not in that room. Turn off the television when you’re not watching and unplug your cellphone charger when not in use. Turn load shedding into an advantage by using it as an opportunity for a romantic candle-lit dinner.

10

USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Most major cities offer some form of public transport system. Try to make use of these systems as much as possible. If you don’t want to use public transport, try carpooling with friends and colleagues instead.

Towards Net Zero: A Tenfold Reduction in Future Carbon Footprints

Individuals born in the 1950s emitted 350 tonnes of CO2 over their lifetime, whereas those born in the 2020s emitted only 34 tonnes. Achieving net zero emissions by 2050 could reduce future generations’ carbon footprint tenfold.

Roadmap to Net Zero by 2050

THE BRIGHT SIDE SHINES THROUGH

Today’s youth are actively engaging with climate science and policy, spurred by firsthand experiences of environmental challenges. They’re driving ambition for emission reductions, participating fervently in global climate forums. With their enthusiasm and determination, they’re pushing for change, advocating for effective policies, and making individual choices to lower carbon footprints.

As we look to the future, it’s clear that younger generations will require more sustainable energy infrastructure and services. This underscores the urgency for sweeping decarbonization efforts, initiated by today’s leaders, to ensure a brighter, greener future for all.

As this Earth Day approaches, it’s crucial to reflect on our impact on the planet and take steps to reduce our carbon footprint. These 10 simple ways offer a starting point for anyone looking to make a positive change. By implementing these changes in our daily lives, we can work towards a more sustainable future for future generations. Remember, every action counts in the fight against climate change.

HOW TO BE MORE SUSTAINABLE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

Holidays are about giving and celebrating, but it doesn’t have to come at a high cost – especially on our environment. We’ve all been guilty of getting caught up in the chaos of the holidays, but with effort and imagination, we can reduce our environmental impact this time of year. After all, conscious consumption is always in.

Here are five tips to ensure you have your most spectacular sustainable holiday gifting yet:

1

 Use Recyclable Wrapping Paper

Or don’t use wrapping paper at all! Magazines, maps, and reusable gift bags make great alternatives and can be fancied up with a bit of creativity. If you’re still committed to the tradition, try going recycled instead. Companies like WrappilyGreen Field Paper Company, and Fish Lips offer eco-friendly alternatives without sacrificing style.

2

 Decorate The All- Natural Way

Rather than reaching for plastic decorations, which can take up to 1,000 years to biodegrade, head out to the backyard for real rustic décor to add some holiday cheer. Pinecones, flowers, and fallen leaves make for beautiful wreaths and centerpieces, while seasonal fruits and festive paper can be repurposed with some imagination.

3

 Make Your Get-Togethers Waste-free

Avoid using disposable dishes and utensils. It may require a little extra work, but at least you can sleep better knowing your waste won’t end up in a landfill. If the thought of extra dishes makes your stress levels skyrocket, these eco-friendly disposable options are just what you need.

4

Go Local For Your Holiday Feast

Farmer’s markets and co-ops are your one-stop shop for organic, seasonal food. Not only are you doing yourself a favor by eating foods that are better for your body, but you’re also supporting your local community and heavily reducing the carbon footprint it takes to bring that food to your table. Extra points for your own bringing reusable bags.

5

 Choose Gifts That Give Back

Amplify your giving power with gifts from sustainably minded companies that not only deliver a great product, but also give back to communities in need. When you give the gift of UMA, you join us in creating jobs for local men and women in India and support our ingrained Ayurvedic belief that everything we take from the world must be given back in equal amounts. Other like-minded companies include Sudara, which employs women who have escaped the sex trade in India, and Love41, which contributes all proceeds to victims of the Rwandan genocide.

As you can see, going green doesn’t have to be hard. Get the whole family involved, and you’ll see how fun it can actually be! And the best part of all? What you do today will allow for future generations to enjoy their own celebrations for years to come.

As you can see, going green doesn’t have to be hard. Get the whole family involved, and you’ll see how fun it can actually be! And the best part of all? What you do today will allow for future generations to enjoy their own celebrations for years to come.

COMPASSIONATE BEAUTY: WHY CRUELTY-FREE IS THE WAY TO GO

The point of testing cosmetics on animals – especially with all the technology and science we have at our disposal – is frankly lost on us. We can 3-D print a heart valve, but must inject a population of mice with a substance until 50% of them die – to ensure that an eyeshadow ingredient is non-toxic?! (Seriously, that’s the definition of a Lethal Dose 50 test – commonplace in some animal testing.)

Sadly, laws around this topic are archaic. It’s shocking to observe that the United States – along with a majority of countries – has not banned this outdated practice altogether. More shocking? A few countries actually mandate animal testing for all cosmetics sold within the country. (We’re looking at you China). Furthermore, there is little policy around testing practices so many of these experiments are far from humane.

Besides, with a multitude of very safe, highly efficacious ingredients to pick from, why must we dabble in the very many unknowns that come with highly synthetic, chemically-laden products? We agree that results are non-negotiable, but decades of experience has shown us – unequivocally – that they can be achieved without chemicals that cause harm to animals (and risk to our bodies!). The choice you have to make is not between getting results and taking a stand against cruelty by choosing animal-friendly products – it’s about asking yourself why you would choose to support a brand that still tests on animals.

We think the following facts might sway you to choose cruelty free skincare and makeup & sustainable beauty .

HOW AYURVEDA PROMOTES SUSTAINABLE HEALTH & WELLNESS

As it becomes increasingly clear that large-scale industrial and environmental practices are damaging the planet’s ecosystems in irreparable ways, sustainability is a top-of-mind priority on both an individual and global level. Sustainability is also a term that has become more prominent in the beauty and wellness industries. We’ve written before about how sustainability means different things in different contexts, and outlined how UMA practically and concretely commits itself to sustainability. But how can Ayurvedic philosophy itself inform our approach to sustainable beauty and wellness?

THE AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE ON SUSTAINABILITY

A grounding principle of Ayurveda is that of Dharma, which signifies an understanding of how to live rightly within the larger order of the universe—in short, how to promote harmony, goodness, holistic health and life itself.

In Ayurveda, it is believed that true health lies in maintaining the balance between the mind, body, spirit and external environment. Five elements—earth, air, water, fire and ether—make up all living beings, thereby connecting us with other people, species and ecosystems. An important part of maintaining the balance between self and environment is not just adapting our own practices to environmental changes, but also caring for the environment in order to ensure its continued wellbeing.

5 elements of Ayurveda

First developed thousands of years ago, the first Indian Ayurvedic practitioners directly farmed and harvested fresh Ayurvedic herbs and made traditional medicines , working slowly and carefully on a scale that ensured that these resources would remain fruitful. Based on the premise of organic, natural solutions to promote health and wellness, this ancient system of ayurvedic remedies prioritizes sustainable practices at its core.

HOW AYURVEDA MAINTAINS SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES

In terms of farming and cultivation, Ayurveda has been driven by sustainable practices that promote the ongoing fertility and livability of the land. It is recommended to use local herbs, rather than spending energy and resources importing exotic plants. It also honors and celebrates the multitude of benefits of common, easy-to-grow plants like turmeric. Furthermore, Ayurveda makes use of as much of each herb as possible to minimize waste. In the case of neem, its twigs can be used for dental cleansing, its leaves for medicated soaps and its leaves for creating oils for external application.

Pharmaceutical corporations that use synthetic ingredients often end up in bodies of water, and they negatively—and sometimes devastatingly—affect local ecosystems. By contrast, as a system that utilizes all-natural ingredients, Ayurvedic waste is biodegradable, too. At UMA, we repurpose our waste into other products, like incense, or as fuel for our distilleries.

All in all, since its inception, Ayurveda has not merely been about improving one’s own individual health and wellbeing—it’s also about recognizing the deep interconnectedness between ourselves and all other living beings, and promoting a way of life that is mutually beneficial, harmonious and sustainable.

HOW YOU CAN ENSURE YOU’RE SUPPORTING SUSTAINABLE BUSINESSES

As Ayurveda has gained exposure and popularity around the world, which is a great thing, an increase in demand for Ayurvedic products also risks the proliferation of production practices that do not adhere to its original principles. The over-extraction of resources can lead to major, irrevocable damage to the land. Furthermore, sustainability also refers to the human and economic dimensions of life, and as such, it’s important to make sure we’re supporting businesses that provide fair working conditions.

sustainable

Here are a few things to look out for while cultivating a sustainable Ayurvedic practice. These factors are just a starting point—and you should feel free to do your own research and develop your own personal priorities when it comes to sustainable consumption.

ORGANIC INGREDIENTS

Organic ingredients are those which are grown and harvested without harmful substances like pesticides, GMOs and synthetic fertilizers. As research has demonstrated, pesticides harm the environment in a multitude of ways: they can contaminate water and soil, decrease soil fertility and pose toxicity threats to other organisms like birds, fish, beneficial insects and other plants. Making sure the products you consume use organic ingredients helps to ensure that crops are sustainably managed and that they don’t harm the surrounding ecosystem.

sustainable compost

FAIR TRADE CONDITIONS

Fair trade is a system whose aim is to promote equitable social and economic conditions and sustainable environmental practices. When a product is marked as fair trade certified, that means the producers of ingredients and products are paid fairly. However, it’s important to keep in mind that in spite of the aims of the fair trade movement to establish more ethical trade relations, the benefits of such a system differ greatly depending on the context.

farm

SUSTAINABLE FARMING & EXTRACTION PRACTICES

If possible, it’s also immensely helpful to know how exactly a company or producer farms and harvests their ingredients, and what steps they are taking toward ensuring that the land remains fertile and not over-extracted. At UMA, for example, we can ensure that our crops are harvested sustainably because they are all farmed on the UMA estate in India, where each crop is planted with the highest-quality seeds and harvested no more than two times before replanting.

Now more than ever, sustainability is an important global priority. As individuals, we can also do our part to make sure that our own lifestyles support sustainable practices. Fortunately, Ayurveda as a system is based on the nourishment and care of the environment at its foundation—when we keep its fundamental principles in mind, we can begin to take the proper steps toward building a more sustainable future.

UMA’s ECO-FRIENDLY INITIATIVES FOR A BETTER PLANET

Sustainability is a word that we see all around us, used by fashion, wellness and beauty brands and environmental justice organizations alike. Given how commonly the term is invoked, UMA understands it can be hard to know what sustainability really means—both on a large scale and in individual contexts.

One of the most commonly cited definitions of sustainability is that of the UN World Commission on Environment and Developmentwhich states, “sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” This sustainable development is both economic and environmental, working to redress global economic inequity and to combat the negative effects of industrial development and climate change. It is also first and foremost centered on promoting the long-term wellbeing of life, both human and nonhuman, on this planet.

As consumers, many of us want to make a statement with our practices by supporting businesses that are sustainable. However, a lot of the time there isn’t too much transparency around what being sustainable means: Is this brand sourcing and producing materials using sustainable production practices? Do they give fair wages and benefits to their employees? Do they give back to the communities in which they are based? It is important and necessary that this information is made available, and that we seek it out, in order to make the most informed decisions.

At UMA, we are committed to sustainability on multiple fronts, both in terms of economic vitality and the sustainability of our farming and production practices. Here’s how we have and will continue to promote a vision of sustainable beauty and wellness—in concrete terms

1

Quality Over Quantity: We Farm Our Botanicals With Patience And Care.

At UMA, all of the organic botanicals are Earth- Friendly that make up our carefully-crafted formulas are farmed on the UMA estate in central India, whose 100-acre meadow is rich with nutritious soil. Our farm’s caretakers meticulously and thoroughly select the highest-quality seeds, and from planting to harvest our crops are given attentive care. Furthermore, each plant is only harvested up to two times before re-planting, ensuring that we are not only extracting the finest ingredients, but also that we are honoring the life of these plants —not exploiting them or over-extracting from the environment.

These practices take time and individualized effort; they’re not mass-farmed, nor are they optimized for the fastest and highest output. The quality of the results have set us apart from other producers, which is why we’ve been chosen as the supplier of organic oils to brands like Tom Ford and Estée Lauder. We prioritize quality over quantity or speed, caring for each plant so that it yields the most high-impact, effective botanicals in a way that respects and sustains the environment

2

Combating The Gender Gap: We Promote Gender Equality In The Workforce.

Attaining financial autonomy is a crucial step in empowering and promoting women’s independence from abusive domestic situations, unfair workplace expectations, difficult childcare duties and more. Especially given that we are based in India, where, especially in the agriculture industry, significant gender-based pay gaps are the norm, here at UMA we take several steps to promote women’s financial autonomy.

First, over half of our employees are women, and they are paid commensurately with their male counterparts.

UMA

Second, we offer additional benefits like childcare services, education programs and generous pension plans so that our employees can have the foundational tools that are necessary to establish financial independence.

Third, we promote female artisanship throughout our products. Even our reusable packaging is hand-sewn and embroidered by our female artisans in India.

3

Beyond The Brand: We Reinvest In Our Local Community.

For us at UMA, sustainability extends beyond our internal production and labor practices. We recognize that we operate our farms and distilleries within a rural community in central India, and that we have a responsibility to give back to that community.

On average, we reinvest one-third of our annual profits into our local community. This takes many forms: we operate a free health clinic, we provide resources for treating the common genetic blood disorder Thalasemmia, we offer academic scholarships for students that enable them to pursue higher education and more.

UMA

By investing in the community, we can make sure that our practices are not only internally sustainable, but that we can operate alongside the community in mutual harmony and growth

4

Truly Clean Beauty: We Avoid Pesticides And Repurpose Waste.

As we’ve already mentioned, our farming practices are slow, loving and sustainable. We further promote the production of high-quality, effective botanicals by not using pesticides or synthetic additives. In addition, we repurpose much of our waste for other products, like incense, or as fuel for our distilleries.

For us, sustainability is not an abstract, lofty ideal or a hazy concept—it requires a set of concrete practices that aim to promote economic, environmental and human equity in a thoughtful and deliberate manner. We believe that we can truly make an impact that begins locally and extends globally. Here at UMA, sustainability is a priority and an ongoing practice: we are constantly striving to understand our own place in the environment and to improve our practices for a more livable, harmonious future.

Ayurveda and UMA Honor Your Individuality: A Fundamental Tenet of Building a Luxurious Life

“Ayurveda encourages us to honor our uniqueness and individuality on the path to well-being.” — Dr. Marc Halpern

Understanding Your Dominant Dosha (your Prakruti) Is Often The First Step

Ayurveda believes that three doshas, each based on their unique traits, contribute to your prakruti:

Ayurveda categorizes individuals into three doshas based on unique traits. –

Vata: Vata dosha represents the Ayurvedic concept of air and space within the mind and body. It embodies qualities of lightness, coolness, and dryness, governing various movements and processes such as blood circulation, elimination, respiration, and the flow of thoughts in the mind.

Pitta: Pitta dosha, the invisible heat energy within our bodies, expresses itself through our metabolism. It plays a role in the breakdown of food in the stomach and intestine, the formation of enzymes, and the release of hormones from the endocrine glands into the bloodstream. Pitta is consistently involved in these processes.

Kapha: Kapha dosha, one of the three doshas in Ayurveda, is primarily composed of earth and water elements. It can be characterized as steady, stable, heavy, slow, cold, and soft in nature. Kapha embodies the qualities of structure, lubrication, and stability in both the mind and body.

Ayurvedic practitioners use this system for personalized treatments. The benefits include stress reduction, enhanced immunity, improved digestion, and healthy skin.

At UMA, we understand that everyone has unique skin types and concerns. That’s why we’ve crafted our products to cater to a wide range of needs. Each UMA product has been formulated with a deep knowledge Ayurveda scriptures and their practical implementation, which means that they have been selected for their therapeutic and healing properties to the specific doshas.

Ayurveda and UMA place their trust in the power of natural ingredients to promote healing, recognizing that we are interconnected with our environment and deeply rooted in nature.

Enhancing Digestion:

“In Ayurveda, digestion is the cornerstone of health.” — Dr. David Simon. Ayurveda emphasizes the significance of good digestion as the cornerstone of good health. By practicing mindful eating, avoiding processed foods, and incorporating natural herbs and spices into your diet, you can improve digestion and rid your body of toxins. UMA offers a plethora of expertise and products aimed at improving digestion.

Boosting Immunity:

Ayurveda harnesses the power of natural remedies to bolster the immune system and prevent illness. These remedies include herbal supplements, daily detoxification practices, and a nourishing diet.  You can find a host of expert information on boosting immunity within our journals.

Enhancing Skin Health:

Ayurvedic skincare offers a luxurious and effective means to promote healthy skin. UMA exemplifies Ayurvedic skincare with their exceptional range of high-quality, natural products tailored to various skin types and concerns, including aging, dryness, dullness, and sensitivity.

Promoting Relaxation:

In our fast-paced lives, stress has become a prevalent concern. Ayurveda provides a range of relaxation techniques, such as meditation, yoga, and massage, to help calm the mind and reduce stress levels.

Improving Sleep Patterns:

Ayurvedic practices, such as abhyanga oil massage and pranayama breathing techniques, can be instrumental in improving sleep patterns and facilitating restful sleep. UMA offers a wide variety of expert content and products to help promote better rest.

Both Ayurveda and UMA Place A Great Emphasis on Self-Care Rituals: Give Yourself the Luxury of Time Every Day

“The journey of Ayurveda begins with self-awareness and self-love.” — Acharya Shunya

Ayurveda places great emphasis on self-care, recognizing that true healing originates from within. Honoring this core Ayurvedic tenet, Each UMA product is a sensory journey, infused with rich, organic ingredients that have graced the beauty rituals of royalty for centuries. The very design of each UMA product is a homage to these timeless self-care rituals, encouraging individuals to pause, breathe, and immerse themselves in the decadence of self-love and nurturance. UMA promotes more than just skin-deep beauty; it celebrates the exquisite art of self-care, turning everyday routines into luxuriant personal rituals.

UMA advocates for many daily self care rituals, such as Self Abhyanga and Hair Oiling. Even a daily skincare routine that involves mindful cleansing, toning, and moisturizing can an act of self-love that ultimately leads to enhanced well-being.

Sustainability is a core value of Ayurveda and UMA

Dr Robert Svoboda mentions in his book ‘Ayurveda: Life, Health and Longevity’ “Ayurveda is the science of life that teaches us how to live in harmony with nature and the world around us.” [1]

Ayurveda recognizes the interconnectedness of all things and the need to preserve our planet’s resources. UMA prioritizes sustainability through sustainable farming, eco-friendly packaging and responsible sourcing. Ayurvedic rituals include massages, aromatherapy, and herbal remedies to restore dosha balance and promote well-being. Aromatherapy plays a key role in Ayurvedic practices, creating tranquility and equilibrium. Essential oils are skillfully used to balance the doshas, induce relaxation, and facilitate healing.

“The great thing about Ayurveda is that its treatments always yield side benefits, not side effects.” From The Charaka Samhita, the oldest known Vedic text on Ayurveda.[2]
